Short description of Bosra
Bosra (بصرى) was the capital of the Roman province of Arabia and is built throughout from black basalt, which gives the whole site its colour. Its theatre is among the best preserved in the Roman world, and it survived because the Ayyubids walled it into a fortress, so a visitor passes through castle corridors before stepping into tiers of seating for fifteen thousand. Around it lie colonnaded streets, baths, a nymphaeum and an early cathedral, with a village still living among them. UNESCO lists the town. A festival fills the theatre in some summers.
