Travel to Mayotte
Mayotte is a French overseas department in the Comoros archipelago, between Madagascar and Mozambique. Its main attraction is one of the largest lagoons in the world, enclosed by a double barrier reef, where green turtles graze in the seagrass, humpback whales come to calve in season and dolphins are common.
The islet of Petite-Terre holds the airport and the crater lake of Dziani. Mayotte is little visited, facilities are limited, and the island was badly damaged by Cyclone Chido in 2024.
