Mayotte · Grande-Terre
Short description of Saziley
Saziley is the headland at the south-eastern corner of Mayotte and a protected stretch of dry coastal forest, baobabs and beaches that are among the most important turtle nesting grounds in the Indian Ocean. It is reached on foot along the coast from Mtsamoudou, a walk of some hours with no road for the last part. Green turtles come ashore at night to lay. The white islet off the point is a breeding colony for terns, and dolphins are regular in the channel between. Nothing is built here, so a visit means a day walk or a night out with a guide.
