Mayotte · Grande-Terre
Short description of M'tsangamouji
M'tsangamouji is a village on Mayotte's north-western coast and the base for the beaches and dive sites of that shore. The beach at M'liha below it is one of the island's main turtle nesting grounds, watched at night from a platform so the animals are left alone. Boats go out from here across the north-western lagoon to the barrier reef, and the drop-offs along it are the reason divers come to this coast. Inland the land rises into the wooded ridge that runs down the middle of Grande-Terre. The village keeps a market and a Friday mosque.
