Description
Varna (Варна) is the third city of Bulgaria and calls itself the sea capital, a working port with an old centre of belle époque facades and a vast seaside garden running the length of the shore. Its archaeological museum holds the Varna gold, the oldest worked gold treasure found anywhere, buried in a necropolis here more than six thousand years ago. Roman thermal baths stand in ruins among the streets, among the largest surviving in the Balkans. The city has an opera house, a summer festival season and beaches within the built-up area. The city works all year and never closes for the season.
