Short description of Tulagi

Tulagi is a small island in the Florida group north of Guadalcanal and was the capital of the British protectorate until the Japanese invasion of 1942. The fight to retake it opened the Guadalcanal campaign, and the waters around it are now one of the best wreck diving areas in the Pacific. The tanker USS Kanawha, the destroyer USS Aaron Ward and a sunken seaplane lie within reach of the dive shop in the old town, along with good reef dives. Old colonial buildings, a cricket ground and caves used by the Japanese recall both eras. A daily passenger boat runs from Honiara in about two hours.
