Description
St. George’s is the capital of Grenada and one of the most photographed harbours in the Caribbean, a horseshoe of red tiled roofs stepping up the sides of a drowned volcanic crater. The inner basin, the Carenage, still works as a harbour for island schooners while the cruise berth sits on the other side of the headland. Fort George looks down on both from the ridge, and the covered market on Young Street trades nutmeg, mace and cocoa six mornings a week. Grenada has been the spice island for two centuries and the smell of it reaches the street.
