Sousse, Tunisia

Sousse

Tunisia · 10 m

Description

Sousse (سوسة) combines the two things Tunisia sells, a walled ninth century medina on the UNESCO list and a long resort beach immediately north of it. The medina is Aghlabid, built as a coastal defence against Byzantine raids, and its ribat and great mosque are fortified rather than decorative, with a watchtower you climb for the view over the whole quarter. Port El Kantaoui, a marina resort ten kilometres up the coast, holds most of the hotels and a golf course, and the two halves function almost independently.
