Description
Road Town is the capital of the British Virgin Islands and the base of one of the largest charter yacht fleets on earth, so its marinas are the real centre of the place and the town exists mostly to provision them. Ferries fan out from the dock to every island in the group and across to Saint Thomas. The J R O'Neal Botanic Gardens hold four acres of palms and orchids behind the old prison walls. Main Street keeps a run of West Indian houses in painted wood with the old post office among them. The airport is on Beef Island, joined to Tortola by a bridge.
