Description
Anegada is the odd one out among the British Virgin Islands, a flat coral and limestone platform whose highest point is eight metres while every other island in the group is a steep green hill. Horseshoe Reef runs eighteen miles off its southern side and has wrecked more than three hundred ships, which is why charter contracts often forbid sailing here. Flamingos were reintroduced to the salt ponds and now breed. Spiny lobster grilled on the beach at Loblolly Bay is what people come for, and the sand runs empty for kilometres. The ferry from Tortola takes about ninety minutes.
