Río San Juan is a laid-back coastal town in the north of the Dominican Republic, known for its tropical scenery of mangroves, secluded coves, and sweeping beaches. At the heart of town lies Laguna Gri-Gri, a mangrove-fringed lagoon where boat trips wind through lush green channels to Cueva de las Golondrinas and out toward the coast. East of Río San Juan, Playa Grande and Playa Caletón rank among the region’s most appealing beaches, while the Playa Grande Golf Course, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., offers spectacular views over the Atlantic.
