Los Haitises (Parque Nacional Los Haitises) is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Dominican Republic, stretching along Samaná Bay in the northeast of the country. The vast national park is known for its densely forested limestone formations, known as “mogotes”, extensive mangrove forests, winding waterways, and caves with pre-Columbian Taíno petroglyphs and pictographs. Los Haitises is home to remarkable biodiversity and is particularly renowned for its rich birdlife, including frigatebirds, pelicans, and herons. Its impressive coastal areas are best explored by boat, combining dramatic karst scenery, tropical wilderness, and Indigenous cultural heritage into one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive nature experiences.
