Description
Altos de Chavón is a picturesque artists’ village perched above the Chavón River near La Romana and one of the Dominican Republic’s most distinctive cultural destinations. Designed in the style of a 16th-century Mediterranean village, it is known for its cobblestone streets, historic-style stone buildings, artists’ studios and galleries, as well as the Church of St. Stanislaus and the Archaeological Museum. Among its landmarks is the open-air amphitheater, with seating for around 5,000 spectators and a long tradition of hosting international artists. Altos de Chavón combines art, architecture and culture with spectacular views over the lush Chavón River gorge.
