Punta del Este
Uruguay · Maldonado · 10 m
Description
Punta del Este is the most visited destination in Uruguay and the best known beach resort on the southern Atlantic, a tower-lined peninsula where the calm river side and the open ocean side meet at a point. In January it fills with Argentines and Brazilians and its restaurant and club season runs at full volume, while for most of the year it is quiet enough to feel oversized. The concrete hand rising out of the sand at Playa Brava is the country's most photographed object. Casapueblo, the white cliff house of the painter Páez Vilaró, stands along the coast. January prices are the highest anywhere.
