Protaras, Cyprus

Protaras

Cyprus · Famagusta District · 20 m

Description

Protaras is the family counterpart to nearby Ayia Napa, a quieter resort strung along a coast of small sandy bays separated by low limestone points. Fig Tree Bay is the centre of it, a wide sheltered arc of pale sand with a rock island close enough to swim to. The seafront path links one bay to the next, and the hillside chapel of Profitis Ilias looks over the whole strip from the top of a long flight of steps. Evenings are built around the musical fountain, tavernas and slow walks rather than clubs. The bays fill early in high summer and empty again by October.
