Description
Limassol (Lemesos) is the second city of Cyprus and its commercial engine, a long seafront of hotels, marina berths and the island's biggest port. The castle in the old town claims the wedding of Richard the Lionheart, and the lanes around it hold the carob mill, restored warehouses and a dense run of bars. West of the city stand the ruins of ancient Kourion with a Greco-Roman theatre cut into the cliff above the sea, and the sanctuary of Apollo Hylates beyond it. Limassol runs the loudest carnival and wine festival on the island. The city has grown fast and holds the island's tallest towers.
