Larnaca, Cyprus

Larnaca

Cyprus · Larnaca District · 10 m

Description

Larnaca (Larnaka) is the main gateway to Cyprus and a relaxed seafront city built on the ancient kingdom of Kition. The palm-lined Finikoudes promenade runs along a town beach straight into the medieval fort, and behind it the church of Saint Lazarus holds the tomb of the man the town claims as its first bishop. The Hala Sultan Tekke mosque stands on a salt lake that fills with flamingos in the cool months. Larnaca mixes Greek and Ottoman heritage with a working fishing harbour, tavernas serving meze and easy access to the Troodos foothills and the eastern beaches.
