Palanga, Lithuania

Palanga

Lithuania · Klaipėda · 5 m

Description

Palanga is the summer resort of Lithuania, a long sand beach behind pine woods where the whole country seems to go in July. A wooden pier runs six hundred metres into the Baltic and the walk to its end at sunset is the fixed ritual of the place. Basanavičiaus street behind the dunes is a kilometre of bars, amber stalls and fairground rides. The Tiškevičiai palace in its botanical park holds the amber museum, some thirty thousand pieces including insects trapped in resin fifty million years ago.
