Short description of Nioumachoua

Nioumachoua is a fishing village on the south coast of Mohéli and the base for the country's only marine park, a protected stretch of reef and eight forested islets lying offshore. Boats run out to the islets to snorkel and to walk on stretches of sand that nobody else is using. Humpback whales come through the channel in the southern winter with their calves and can be watched from the same boats. One small lodge inside the park sets the ceiling on how many people can be here at once, and that is very few.
