Short description of Itsamia

Itsamia is a village on the southeast corner of Mohéli whose beaches are among the most important green turtle nesting grounds anywhere, with females coming ashore on most nights of the year. The village association runs the protection itself and takes visitors down after dark to watch a female dig and lay. Hatchlings break out of the sand about two months later. There is nowhere to stay but simple community rooms, and the point of coming is the night walk, so a night here is not optional. The track in from the main road is rough.
