Description
Mtirala (მტირალა) protects a block of Colchic rainforest in the hills behind the Adjaran coast, part of the reserve system inscribed as the Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands. The name means weeping, and it is earned. Around four and a half thousand millimetres of rain fall on the massif in a year, which makes it the wettest place in Georgia and in Europe. Under the canopy grow Colchian boxwood, tree ferns and ivy left over from before the ice ages. A trail from Chakvistavi reaches a waterfall of eighteen metres and a pool held between rock walls.
