Gudauri
Georgia · Mtskheta-Mtianeti · 2200 m
Description
Gudauri (გუდაური) is the main ski resort of Georgia, strung along the Georgian Military Highway at two thousand two hundred metres just below the Jvari Pass. The slopes face south on open treeless ridges, which makes the off-piste and the heliskiing the real draw rather than the marked runs, and the season holds from December into April. In summer the same slopes carry paragliders, and a few kilometres up the road the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument, a Soviet concrete drum lined with a bright mosaic, hangs over a thousand metre drop into the Devil's Valley.
