Description
Sighnaghi (სიღნაღი) is a small hill town in Kakheti with a four kilometre eighteenth century wall still ringing it and twenty three towers you can walk between, looking out over the Alazani valley to the wall of the Greater Caucasus. Kakheti is where most Georgian wine is made and where the qvevri method, fermenting in buried clay vessels, has run unbroken for eight thousand years, which UNESCO recognised as intangible heritage in 2013. The town markets itself as the town of love because the registry office keeps night hours, and the wine cellars underneath do the rest.
