Short description of Kpalimé
Kpalimé sits in the wettest, greenest hill country the south has, cocoa and coffee terraces climbing hillsides thick enough with butterflies that collectors once made the town famous for them. The Klouto forest just above it holds waterfalls and marked trails that fill up with weekend visitors from Lomé. A ruined colonial mansion up on the ridge gives a view over the whole valley below. Basket weavers and other local craftspeople work in small workshops scattered around the centre. The best trail conditions come after the rains ease rather than in the deepest dry months.
