Short description of Aledjo
Aledjo is a roadside stop on the main highway north where a troop of mona monkeys has learned that passing cars mean bananas, and every overland traveller between Lomé and Kara pulls over here for a quarter of an hour. It is not a wildlife reserve in any serious sense, just a patch of forest by the road where the monkeys gather at the sound of an engine slowing down. Vendors sell fruit for feeding them right at the roadside. Almost nobody stays, and the stop rarely lasts longer than the time it takes to buy bananas and watch.
