Short description of Kalaw
Kalaw (ကလော) is a former British hill station in the Shan hills and the starting point of Myanmar’s best known trek. The two or three day walk to Inle Lake crosses ridgelines, tea gardens and villages of the Danu, Palaung and Pa O, with overnight stops in monasteries and family homes. The town itself is small, cool and pine scented, with a Nepali and Indian community left from colonial times, a busy morning market and viewpoints on the surrounding ridges. Caves, bamboo forests and the Myin Ma Hti cave temple lie within a short ride. Kalaw is used above all as a trekking base.
