Description
George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands and one of the busiest cruise calls in the Caribbean, though the harbour is too shallow for berths so ships anchor out and tender passengers to the waterfront. Behind the duty-free shops the National Museum sits in the old courthouse and gaol of the 1830s, the oldest building on the island. The Cayman Islands are a major offshore banking centre and the towers of that industry stand a street back from the sea. Reefs and the wreck of the Cali lie a swim from the shore. The airport lies two kilometres inland from the harbour.
