Description
East End is the far end of Grand Cayman and the part that kept its own pace, a scatter of settlements along a coast where the reef runs close in and the trade wind blows onshore all year. Blowholes send spray through the ironshore when the swell is up. Ten sailing ships wrecked here on one night in 1794 and the reef that took them is now marked by a monument on the cliff. Divers work walls nobody else reaches, and kitesurfers use the flat water inside the reef at Barefoot Beach. The drive from George Town takes about forty minutes.
