Description
Cayman Brac lies a hundred and forty kilometres north-east of Grand Cayman and is named for the bluff that runs its whole length, a limestone ridge rising to forty-three metres and dropping in a sheer cliff at the eastern end. Twenty kilometres long and two wide, it has around two thousand people and no traffic light. Trails climb the bluff to a lighthouse past caves that people sheltered in during hurricanes. The Russian frigate Tibbetts was sunk offshore as an artificial reef. Brown boobies nest on the cliff face. The flight from Grand Cayman takes under half an hour.
