Description
Bodden Town was the capital of the Cayman Islands until the 1820s and is now a quiet strip along the southern coast road, named after the family that settled it. Pirate caves are cut into the ironshore behind the village and are shown with a good deal of licence about who used them. Meagre Bay Pond next door is a bird sanctuary where herons, egrets and migrating waders feed on the mudflats. Gun Square holds two cannon that guarded the old harbour. The beaches here are small, empty and backed by sea grape. The coast road runs on east to the far end of the island.
