Egeskov Castle
Denmark · Southern Denmark · 25 m
Description
Egeskov Castle is one of the best-preserved Renaissance water castles in Europe and ranks among Denmark's most remarkable historic landmarks. Completed in 1554, the castle rises picturesquely from a surrounding moat and is renowned for its fortified architecture, built on a foundation of oak piles driven into the lakebed. Surrounded by an extensive park featuring historic gardens, a hedge maze, and several museums, Egeskov combines centuries of history with a wide range of visitor experiences. Still privately owned and inhabited today, the castle is one of the island of Funen's most celebrated attractions, blending Renaissance architecture, landscaped gardens, and living cultural heritage in a unique setting.
