Description
Aalborg sits where the Limfjord narrows and spent most of its history shipping herring, grain and cement, which is why the waterfront stayed industrial until it was handed back to the city. The north bank is now a promenade of concrete and timber that runs past Utzon's last building, a low white house of curved roofs designed by the architect of the Sydney Opera House in the town where he grew up. Behind it the old town keeps half timbered merchant houses and Jomfru Ane Gade, one street of bars that Danes talk about the way they talk about weather.
