Description
Christiansfeld was laid out in 1773 by Moravian Brethren who had been given land and freedom of worship by Christian VII, and they built a town the way they believed a Christian community should look. The plan is a grid of identical yellow brick houses around a square with a white meeting hall that has no altar and no pulpit. The cemetery outside town, God's Acre, has flat identical stones with men on one side and women on the other, because in death nobody outranks anybody. The bakery has made the same honey cakes since the town was founded.
