Description
Cerro Punta is a cool mountain farming village in the highlands of Chiriquí and one of Panama’s most important agricultural centers. At around 1,900 meters above sea level, the village is surrounded by a patchwork of vegetable fields, strawberry farms, and flower plantations covering the fertile mountain slopes. Cerro Punta is known as a gateway to hiking through the cloud forests of Volcán Barú National Park and La Amistad International Park, including the Sendero Los Quetzales trail toward Boquete. A challenging route up Volcán Barú also begins on this side of the massif. The surrounding forests are also among Panama’s best areas for spotting the colorful resplendent quetzal.
