Description
The Caravelle is a narrow peninsula thrown twelve kilometres out into the Atlantic, protected as a nature reserve and quite unlike the rest of Martinique, dry and windswept with mangrove on the sheltered side and bare cliff on the exposed one. A marked loop of two hours passes the ruins of Château Dubuc, a plantation the family abandoned after being accused of luring ships onto the rocks, and ends at a lighthouse with the whole north coast in view. Tartane at the neck is a working fishing village with a beach. The reserve is signposted from La Trinité at the neck.
