Short description of Al Wakrah
Al Wakra was a pearling and fishing town before the capital outgrew it, and its old souq has been rebuilt along the shore in coral stone and gypsum with the harbour still working beside it. The beach runs south from there towards Mesaieed, where the tarmac ends and the dunes of Sealine begin. That strip is the country's desert playground, quad bikes and camps and the launch point for the run down to the inland sea. The stadium here is the one Zaha Hadid shaped after a pearling boat, and the metro from the capital ends a short way inland of it.
