Travel to Tuvalu
Tuvalu is one of the smallest and least visited countries in the world, a chain of nine low coral islands and atolls in the central Pacific. Funafuti, the capital atoll, has a lagoon for swimming and a runway that becomes a public space for sports and evening strolls when no plane is due.
The Funafuti Conservation Area protects islets, reefs and seabirds on the western side of the lagoon. Rising sea levels threaten the islands, which lie only a few metres above the ocean, making Tuvalu a powerful symbol of climate change.
