Wulai
Taiwan · New Taipei · 200 m
Description
Wulai (烏來) is a hot-spring valley in the forested hills an hour south of Taipei and the nearest Atayal community to the capital. Its springs are alkaline carbonate, clear and odourless, and can be taken in hotel baths or free in the riverbed itself where locals dam pools with stones. A short open-sided log cart, originally built to move timber, runs along the gorge to the foot of Wulai Waterfall, which drops about eighty metres in a single fall. The old street sells Atayal food including millet wine, mountain boar and aiyu jelly. Cherry trees along the road flower from late January, which is the busiest time of the year here.
