Short description of Terjit
Terjit is a crack in the escarpment where warm water comes out of the rock and palms grow thick enough to close over the gorge, which in this country is close to miraculous. Mats and low tents are set out under the fronds beside the pools and people come simply to lie in the shade and listen to water. The spring runs all year. Date harvest in high summer fills the oasis with families despite the heat. It lies an hour south of Atar on the road and is usually seen in a single day.
