Short description of Banc d'Arguin
Banc d'Arguin is where the Sahara meets the Atlantic with nothing at all in between, a shallow shelf of sandbank and seagrass that feeds many millions of wading birds through the northern winter and is protected as world heritage. The Imraguen people live along it in a handful of small villages and fish from lateen rigged wooden boats under sail, which is the only fishing method allowed anywhere inside the park. Visitors sleep in village huts and go out on those same wooden boats. There is no vegetation and no shade of any kind anywhere.
