Short description of Ben Amera
Ben Amera is a single dome of granite standing alone out of flat desert near the iron ore railway, big enough that people argue about where it ranks among the monoliths of the world. A second smaller dome sits nearby and is climbed more often because it can be. In the late nineties sculptors were brought out here and left carved work scattered on the sand between the two, which has weathered into the landscape. There is nothing else out here at all. Travel advisories for this whole region counsel against all but essential visits.
