Short description of St Brelade
St Brelade is the parish on Jersey's south west corner, built around a broad south facing bay of pale sand that shelves gently into clear water. At the western end of the beach stand the parish church and the Fisherman's Chapel, a low granite building whose medieval wall paintings survive almost complete. Wooded slopes above the bay hide the smaller coves of Beauport, Ouaisné and Portelet, the last reached by a long flight of steps down to an islet with a lone tomb on it. The cliff cave of La Cotte held Neanderthal remains. The bay is the island's most popular place to swim.
