Soroca
Moldova · 70 m
Description
Soroca stands on the Dniester at the Ukrainian border and holds the best preserved fortress in Moldova, a perfect circle of stone with five towers raised by Stephen the Great in 1499 and restored so thoroughly that it reads as new. On the hill above the town is a district built by Roma families who made money abroad and put it into houses copying buildings they had seen, so a Bolshoi Theatre and a US Capitol stand side by side in various states of completion.
