Description
Cricova is a wine cellar built into a limestone mine north of Chișinău, and the scale is the point. About a hundred and twenty kilometres of galleries run under the ground at sixty to eighty metres depth, laid out as streets with names like Cabernet and Feteasca and driven through by electric train, since walking would take a day. Around a million and a half bottles are stored at a constant twelve degrees. A collection room holds bottles taken as war reparations, including wine from Göring's cellar.
