Short description of Shell Beach
Shell Beach is a long strip of shell and sand on the northwest coast where four species of sea turtle come ashore to nest, including leatherbacks the size of a small car. The camp is canvas and thatch with no power and no road, reached by a flight to the northwest and then several hours in an open boat through mangrove channels. Rangers walk the length of the beach at night and visitors walk with them. Scarlet ibis feed in the creeks behind the sand. Outside the nesting months there is nothing here at all.
