Short description of Iwokrama
Iwokrama is a million acres of rainforest that Guyana gave to the world as a working experiment in whether a forest can pay for itself without being cut down. The reserve straddles the only road south, so the jaguar that crosses at night crosses in front of headlights. A canopy walkway strung between ironwood trees puts visitors a good thirty metres up among the toucans at first light. River lodges sit on the bank of the Essequibo just below a set of rapids. Petroglyphs appear on the rocks there whenever the water drops far enough.
