The Sainte Anne Marine National Park (Parc national marin de Sainte-Anne) covers six islands in the bay directly off Victoria and was the first marine park in the Indian Ocean, protected since 1973. Glass-bottom boats run out from the harbour in twenty minutes to reefs of staghorn and brain coral where the fish are used to being fed and hawksbill turtles graze the seagrass. Moyenne, once owned by a single eccentric Englishman who lived there alone with giant tortoises, is now a national park within a national park and can be walked in an hour. Every operator in Victoria sells the same half-day trip.
