Description
Curieuse lies a short boat ride north of Praslin and is a marine national park where several hundred Aldabra giant tortoises roam free, brought here to breed and now grazing the open ground around the ranger station without any fence between them and visitors. The island once held a leper colony, and the doctor's house of 1873 survives as a small museum. A boardwalk crosses a mangrove swamp from one coast to the other. Curieuse is also one of the few places outside Praslin where the coco de mer grows. The visit is a half day and is sold together with Saint Pierre islet.
