Description
Ruvubu is the largest protected area in Burundi, a long corridor of savannah and wooded hills following the river of the same name through the east of the country. Buffalo, hippo, bushbuck, warthog and baboon are the animals seen, and the big cats are effectively gone, so this is a park for landscape, birds and space rather than for a checklist. More than four hundred bird species are recorded along the river and its swamps. There are no lodges, only campsites and simple bandas, and a ranger goes with every walk. The grass stands three metres high after the rains.
