Description
Kibira is the mountain rainforest of northwestern Burundi, a long strip of green along the Congo Nile divide that runs straight into Rwanda's Nyungwe and once formed one forest with it. Colobus and l'Hoest's monkeys are seen readily, chimpanzees live here but are barely used to people, and the birding brings the endemics of the Albertine Rift within reach. Trails leave from the Rwegura and Teza sectors, both surrounded by tea. The dam at Rwegura holds the reservoir that lights much of the country. Nights at this altitude are cold and visitors tend to underpack for them.
